"These paintings represent impressions and observations... a statement about how the subject has affected me. Each one begins as a study of the subject, and ends as an understanding of myself."
Beginning with a black and white value study, usually sketched on location, Susan’s paintings develop using an abstract approach. While exploring compositional themes, the ideas for color and narrative begin to flood her thoughts. It is at this stage that the painting develops its unique voice.
Gifted with a spirited and motivational teaching style, Susan has taught comprehensive pastel painting workshops across the country, including New York, North Carolina, and Arizona. Her work has been published in many national magazines—most recently a feature article in the February 2006 issue of The Pastel Journal. Susan’s paintings have appeared in such publications as The Best of Pastel, The Best of Drawing and Sketching, and this year’s Pure Color: The Best of Pastel—all from North Light Books.
Susan Ogilvie has received numerous national awards, and maintains signature member status with the Pastel Society of America, in New York.
Susan is represented in the Northwest by Kimzey Miller Gallery in Seattle, WA and The Attic Gallery in Portland, OR.
