Dimensions Newsletter - Nov/December 2006

Mission Statement: Visual artists and supporters encouraging and promoting the arts in the community.

COLLAGE BY Pat Nix

In the blink of an eye, nature flips the switch and we are engulfed in wet, dark, Fall.  It is not surprising that most civilized societies have had festivals and holidays to lighten the darkness at this time.  I already see a glow of coming festivities.

November’s First Friday Art Walk was quite wet and dark, but there were people everywhere and good cheer was contagious.  It was so nice to see the store lights on.  The six places I visited, all had good crowds.  We owe Renne Brock-Richmond a vote of thanks for her hard work in getting this going with the merchants.  December should be even better.

Sunday the Port Angeles Fine Arts Center opened their 20-year retrospective show, part 1, a very satisfying show.  Many local artists of note were there, and it was an overflow crowd.  Be sure you don’t miss this show which runs through December 30.

This will be my last COLLAGE and the last newsletter of 2006.  I want to thank the membership for a successful year of exhibits and activities.  I look forward to working with in-coming president, Connie Alexander, for an even better 2007.

Please come to the December 7, Holiday Luncheon where Connie will receive the magic gavel.  A very brief meeting will be held after the luncheon with all 2006 and incoming 2007 committee chairs.  Current committee chairs should bring any materials they have to pass on to new committee chairs for 2007.

December Demonstration Terri Shinn will demonstrate her collage techniques. The inspiration for Terri’s art comes from her sense of humor and outlook on life. Experimentation is an essential and on-going process, as she fears stagnation. In her pieces, she plays with her own inner visions and sense of color.

Terri’s work has been selected into many regional shows.  She has also had her art published in numerous magazines and books.  Terri is a past-President of the Arts Council of Snohomish County and the 2005 “Artist of the Year for Snohomish County.”
